Black USB-C 12V3A Power Supply Board PSU Replacement For SEGA Saturn Game Console

Description:

The SaturnPSU is a simple, quick-install backup power supply for the SEGA Saturn that not only reduces heat inside your console from the original power supply, which can help extend the life of your Saturn, but also frees up some much needed internal space for any other mods you may have or want to install. Suitable for various models of SEGA Saturn.

NOTE:

  • Not suitable for sega saturn VA0 motherboard.

How to quickly identify the motherboard version using the console serial number?

that this serial system does not apply to non-SEGA Saturns, such as those from Samsung, JVC/Victor, and Hitachi.

  1. View the nameplate on the back of the control bar

  2. Check the seventh character (from right to left)

The Saturn had 3 different sorts of PSU:

Type A:

  • VA0 (original PSU mounted on the top shell)
    (PINS are GND,GND, 3.3v, 5v, 9v)

Type B:

  • VA1-VA5: Type B (5 pin PSU and longer than Type C):

  • (PINS are GND,GND, 3.3v, 5v, 9v)

Type C:

  • VA6-VA15: Type C (PSU shorter than Type B). 5 PINS for PAL models, 4 PINS for NTSC models)

(PINS are GND, GND, 5v, 5v, 9v) or (GND, GND, 5v, 5v).

Set the switches on your Saturn PSU according to the voltages that your power supply type requires:

For Type B:

  • Set the switch to 3.3V.

For Type C:

  • Set the switch to 5V.

Features:

  • Compatible with SEGA Saturn console(VA1~VA15).

  • Convenient voltage adjustment switch.

  • Drop in, easy to use replacement for original power supply (no modifications necessary).

  • Utilizes your original Saturn power button.

  • Runs from an external 12v 3amp power supply.

  • Less heat inside your Saturn means that will potentially last longer.

How to Read Saturn Serial Numbers

SEGA-branded Saturn units follow a serial numbering convention that provides the following useful information: the location where the Saturn was manufactured, the year it was produced, the board (VA) revision, and the sequential number from the production run. Note that this serial system does not apply to non-SEGA Saturns, such as those from Samsung, JVC/Victor, and Hitachi.

  • The first character - a letter or a number - indicates the production location of the unit, such as various locations in Japan, Taiwan, etc. Each location has a unique number or letter. *Occasionally, this factory code can consist of two characters, but this is rare.

  • The second character - always a number - indicates the year of manufacture. 4 = 1994 (the Japanese launch units) through 8 = 1998, for the last units produced.

  • The third character - a number or letter - indicates the board revision. SEGA's console boards are named 'VAx', where x = the revision number. The original Saturn board is a VA0, so the character in the serial number would be a 0. After VA9, the system switches to letters. A VA10 board would be denoted as an 'A'. The final board, VA15, is noted as the letter F.

  • The last six characters are the serial number from the production run.

Please see the photo below for examples.

In this case, the serial number is AD65057646. The first letters (or letter combination) are the manufacturer’s code (in this example, ‘AD’), the first number after the manufacturer code is the year of production (‘6’, which refers to 1996), and the next number is the VA version (in this case, ‘5’). Therefore, this machine is a VA5.
